A Voice For Animals

The Surry County SPCA organized in 1993. It formed due to the many unwanted dogs roaming the county as well as colonies of feral cats living at dumpsites. The SPCA believes it must take a proactive approach to the problem by educating the youth about responsible pet ownership and assisting financially to provide spaying and neutering assistance.

The SPCA sponsors KIND NEWS to thirty-five classrooms (K through Grade 6) in Surry County Public Schools and Tidewater Academy in Sussex County. KIND NEWS is published once a month by the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education. It encourages good character development and emphasizes kindness to animals, respect for natural habitats, good citizenship, and peaceful conflict resolution. It is our goal to expand KIND NEWS to the Sussex Public School System. See our Education page to learn more about this program and how you can help educate our youth.

The Surry County SPCA is an IRS tax-exempt organization. Our budget and annual report are available upon request at P.O. Box 96, Surry, VA 23883 or by calling the Treasurer at (757) 294-3617.
